History
After over a decade of dealing with the rat race into Manhattan every day, Howard Markowitz packed his and his family's bags and moved from New York to Florida in 1991. With lessons learned from working at a typical stuffy firm, Howard vowed to do things differently in private practice and built Howard L Markowitz PA CPA with a personalized touch in mind. Every client is our most important client at all times, and customer service is always the first rule of our business.
Our first office in Leesburg opened its doors in 1993, and we have dozens of coveted clients who have been with us since Day 1. We expanded into Casselberry in 2005, giving us a footprint across all of Central Florida.
After graduating college in 2007, Adam fulfilled his father's lifelong dream and joined the team of Howard L Markowitz PA CPA. In 2014, Adam became a full-fledged partner, creating a father-and-son team that now services clients from coast-to-coast in both the accounting and tax space. The COVID-19 pandemic brought so much pain and anguish physically and financially to this country. Realizing a passion to serve the community, Adam stepped into that financial gap and helped individuals and small businesses receive nearly $9 million in COVID-19-related relief. We now serve over 600 clients across the country and have expanded our staff for the first time in our history.
In 2023, Howard L Markowitz PA CPA will celebrate its 30th anniversary. As a part of our 30th anniversary celebration, we’re rebranding and building towards a new future with Adam heading up the business while Howard heads into a much-deserved retirement. In October 2022, Howard L Markowitz PA CPA’s next step in its evolution took flight, rebranding to Luminary Tax Advisors.
No matter whether you're right around the corner or clear across the country, we still believe in treating all of our clients with the utmost respect and look forward to adding you to our accounting family.

Adam Markowitz
With Bachelors of Arts degrees from Florida State University in Music and History and a background in sports journalism, Adam didn't originally have accounting on his radar. But math and numbers were always in Adam's blood, and one taste of the accounting world pointed him towards the rest of his career when he joined Howard L Markowitz PA CPA in 2007. Adam never took a single class in business, finance or accounting in his life, and everything he learned was done so in the real world. The first lesson in “accounting” Adam ever got was from Howard, and it sticks with him to this day: “Treat the person sitting across the table from you as if they were your grandmother.”
With years of hard work and preparation, Adam became a partner in Howard L Markowitz PA CPA in 2014 and became an IRS-licensed enrolled agent in 2018. He has proudly assumed the torch from his father and has expanded the footprint of the business from a mostly bookkeeping and tax service to one that services clients in other fields such as payroll, business formation and studies on business acquisitions and sales.
In December 2020, Adam was named West Orange Chamber of Commerce’s Leader Out of Necessity, an award given to him for his tireless work in response to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19. Adam single-handedly helped over 250 members of the community receive almost $9,000,000 in relief through the Paycheck Protection Program and other CARES Act and American Rescue Plan Act affiliated sources.
Adam has helped inject some youth into the business, and he will always proudly run the business now known as Luminary Tax Advisors under the premise of being people-centric and personalized above all else.
In December 2020, Adam was named to Forbes’ list of Top 100 Must Follow Tax Twitter Accounts for 2021. He was named to Bloomberg’s Tax Professional to Follow on Social Media in 2022 list. You can also learn more about Adam from his Spotlight in Bloomberg from July 2021.
A leader in the business community, Adam was named to the West Orange Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees in December 2021.
Adam is set to lead the business into a new light in 2023 as Howard phases into retirement. Adam has quarterbacked the rebranding efforts of Howard L Markowitz PA CPA and has proudly assumed the new title of President and CEO of Luminary Tax Advisors as of January 2023.
